National Poetry Slam Comes to Boston Next Week and Singer/Poet Iyeoka This Week on “Saturday Mornings with Joy Keys” -podcast
The National Poetry Slam is coming to Boston/Cambridge this summer from August 9th-13th. On Tuesday the 9th, the preliminary competition kicks off with 72 teams of poets from around the country and globe where the 2011 National Poetry Slam Competition will be held in Central Square, Cambridge, with select events just over the river in Boston. Recording artist/poet Iyeoka has been invited to showcase her new work on kick off night at the Lizard Lounge in 1667 Massachusetts avenue following the first round of preliminary competition that concludes at 10pm.  Iyeoka will be performing live backed by the Jeff Robinson Trio. DID YOU KNOW?: Iyeoka came up with the idea for the TESTIFY song after dancing with 350 slam poets at the rap party for the 2009 National Poetry Slam in Miami, Florida.
