Dear Amenawon Foundation supporter, On behalf of the Amenawon Foundation board, please join me in celebrating the inaugural issue of our quarterly newsletter! We will be sending you news and features to update you on the exciting work of the Foundation. This past August, Board Vice-Chair, Georgia and I returned from a trip to Uwessan, Edo State, Nigeria where we focused on community empowerment and strategies to address the current challenges in rural Nigeria. Doing this we continued to spread a message of hope to the citizens who are committed to changing their life circumstances through hard work and education.Peace & Love, Ino Okoawo Board Chair and President

| August Trip to Uwessan Board Member Georgia Madway and I traveled to Nigeria in August to meet with community leaders and residents of Uwessan, a rural region in Edo State. The people of Uwessan are at the heart of what we do at Amenawon Foundation. We met people who are truly inspiring in their commitment to improve the quality of education and their public health system. We delivered much-needed school supplies to classrooms and met with teachers and students. We also went to the Ibhiolulu Health Center where medical workers said they are in dire need of insecticidal nets to prevent the spread of malaria and other infectious diseases. You can read a more detailed version of our trip on our blog, featured here.

School Supply Drive I wanted to express my deepest gratitude to everyone who donated school supplies for our August trip to Uwessan. From May to July, we collected crayons, pens, pencils, calculators, folders and notebooks and delivered them right to hands of children. Their faces beamed when they saw these gifts, all made possible by the generosity of our donors. Classrooms in rural Nigeria are woefully lacking in basic supplies, according to teachers. We are always interested in school supply donations to help the children of Uwessan reach their potential. Please contact me at iokoawo@amenawon.org or at 202-526-2927 to arrange a pick up in the Washington DC metro region.
